The cornerstone of pediatrics is preventive medicine, and it's truly a pleasure to help children grow up to be healthy, happy adults. After growing up in Maryland, I went to the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Upon completion of my internship in pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, I moved to Colorado for my pediatric residency training. I was chief resident at The Children's Hospital in Denver for a year, and then started work at Kaiser Permanente in 1997. Kaiser Permanente has allowed me to stay focused on patient care, supports me in my practice of evidence-based medicine, and encourages my special interest in childhood diabetes which has driven me to volunteer at diabetes camps in Colorado, California and Chile.
My small pediatric practice at Skyline Medical Offices allows me to see children from birth to 18 years old. There are several pediatricians, a pediatric nurse practitioner, and a wonderful group of nurses in our practice. We value continuity of care, meaning that our goal is to have a child see his/her primary care physician for well child exams as well as acute care visits. Children and their parents know that they can come to us with any questions or concerns. I also manage the care of Kaiser Permanente patients at Children's Hospital Colorado and Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital to encourage the balance of primary care and hospital medicine.
When I am not in the office, I like to be outdoors. I commute to work on my bike and I enjoy cycling tours, usually with my husband on our tandem bike and the kids in a bike trailer. Colorado is such a wonderful place to raise active children, and my young twin boys love skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, swimming and camping. I'm passionate about literature, and hope my boys will learn to value reading books over watching TV. We take the boys to concerts, plays, museums, the ballet and races (bike races, triathlons, Nordic skiing, etc.). Raising children is a challenging, fantastic adventure that I share with the parents in my practice—it keeps us young and striving to make the world a better place.
