I graduated from high school in 1980 in La Jolla, California. I received my Undergraduate degree from Harvard University, with a major in music, followed by a master's degree in piano performance from Juilliard, New York City in 1986. I spent the next five years doing computer music and electronic music performance, until 1991, when I decided I had had enough and was ready for a major shift in direction and began pre-med coursework at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). I then attended Medical School at Tulane, completed an Internship in San Jose, California followed by residency at UCSD, and body imaging fellowship at University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. I started working at Kaiser Permanente right after my fellowship in July of 2003, and have been working here ever since. Being a Kaiser Permanente employee is a privilege. The work environment of the organization is, in general, very collegial. Employees respect one another, and share a sense of working together as a team to accomplish the common goal of delivering high-quality patient care. The patients and staff are very friendly, and I feel as if I'm being productive and am positively contributing to humanity. I'm very happy working here, and plan to stay for the remainder of my professional career.
I work in the department of radiology. I read plain film, fluoro, CT, ultrasound, and MRI. I'm the head of the minor procedures section, and I perform minor imaging-guided biopsy and drainage procedures. I also perform CT-guided cryoablation of renal tumors. I treat my patients with respect, and recognition of the fact that most of them would rather be somewhere other than the hospital. I listen to my patients and place emphasis on clear communication between patient and healthcare provider. I try to provide high-quality healthcare, with courtesy, professionalism, and expediency, so that they can eventually get out of the hospital and enjoy their lives.
My hobbies include hiking, biking, tinkering with electronics, and watching movies. I'm very pro-environmental in my lifestyle, and in various ways, I try to minimize my impact on the environment.
