Acerca de mí
I grew up in Vancouver (not B.C.), Washington (not D.C.). An alumna of Hudson’s Bay High School, I am grateful to the teachers who inspired in me a love of science and discovery. At Stanford University, I started by posting a 64-square-foot crossword puzzle on my dorm wall and finished with a major in Symbolic Systems (an interdisciplinary field combining computer science, linguistics, philosophy, and psychology). I also had the opportunity to study abroad in Italy, volunteer at skilled nursing facilities, and help implement an HIV awareness campaign. My experiences working on a team to improve community health led me to join an international organization to teach about HIV in Tanzania, where I learned Swahili, summited Mt. Kilimanjaro, and ultimately decided to pursue medicine. At the University of Washington School of Medicine, I fell in love with family medicine. I completed my residency training and chief residency at the innovative Oregon Health & Science University Family Medicine Program, where trainees receive additional education in leadership, population health, quality improvement, information management, and primary care skills. After 15 years away, I am thrilled to return to work in my hometown.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
As a family physician, I have the privilege and responsibility of taking care of my patients through all stages of life. I am excited to help members with a breadth of urgent and chronic issues, and my particular areas of interest include procedures, women’s health, prenatal care, pediatrics, and teen health. I believe that excellent primary care is essential for patients and our health-care system. Building strong patient-physician relationships and promoting education form the core of my approach to patient care. I chose to work for Kaiser Permanente because as an integrated health system it is leading the way for primary care innovation and improvement. KP thrives by prioritizing and optimizing patient health and wellness, and I want to work for an organization that truly puts the patient first. KP values many key components of successful primary care: preventive medicine, evidence-based medicine, team-based care, population and individual health, research, and ongoing quality improvement. Patients at KP are supported by an entire network of primary care providers, nurse educators, psychologists, social workers, subspecialists, and community resources, who work in collaboration to provide coordinated and integrated patient care. It is an honor to be part of this amazing team!
Cómo vivo bien
I try to eat healthfully, get in my daily steps by walking and taking hikes, and practice good sleep habits. I thrive by making time for things that restore me and bring me joy: singing, crossword puzzles, learning new languages, travel, and spending time with friends and family. I like to learn new things and am currently trying to be a better cook, baker, and ukulele player!
