Acerca de mí
Thanks for taking your time to visit my Web page. I'm honored and humbled to have the opportunity to share my personal and professional background with you. I hope that you find the information provided helpful in helping select your primary eye care physician, and I look forward for the opportunity to be of service to you and your family in addressing your vision and eye care needs.
I was born in the beautiful Bay Area of Northern California, but lived overseas for most of my first decade of life, experiencing travel to all continents as my father’s job took us from Indonesia to Saudi Arabia and then to Japan. I graduated from boarding high school in Hawaii and attended UC Berkeley, completing two bachelor’s degrees and then receiving my doctor of optometry degree in 1993. I also completed graduate school with a master’s degree in health care administration from the University of Oklahoma, and Command and Staff at Marine Corps University. I joined the United States Navy in 1993, completing my tour of service in 2013. I met my future wife in Pensacola, Florida, while serving as an aerospace optometrist, and am a proud father to 2 incredible daughters who are my pride and joy. I feel privileged to a member of Kaiser Permanente's eye care team and am grateful to call San Diego home after 20 years of moves and deployments.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
Vision accounts for 80% of the senses a person uses daily, and I have spent my adult life dedicated to "kaizen" (the Japanese word for “continuous improvement”) to further my knowledge and skills to provide high-quality eye care. I am a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and have specialty training in aerospace medicine, refractive surgery, contact lenses, low vision, and traumatic brain injury rehabilitation, and I am glaucoma certified. My current position in primary eye care allows me to utilize my previous training to meet—and hopefully exceed—your expectations. With 20-plus years of previous clinical experience and teaching optometry students as a clinical professor, I am dedicated to making your visit one where you leave the exam with more knowledge on the status of your eye health. My philosophy on eye care is based on evidence and current research, tied with member-focused care to ensure high levels of patient safety and quality eye care.
Cómo vivo bien
I firmly believe that to live well, one needs balance in all aspects of daily life. We all wear many "hats" in life, and those who stay healthy are the ones who can balance all the different roles we end up being cast into. I fell in love with surfing and the ocean as a high school student and continue to surf as much as time allows, passing down this passion of mine to my daughters with weekly beach sessions. I am a musician who currently uses my past "rock and roll" band experience as a guitarist towards my community church as a senior worship team leader. I am a trained chef, specializing in sushi and Japanese food, and love entertaining friends and family. I enjoy free diving and spearfishing, and relish any chance to go "catch" the evening meal. I am so very blessed to have an incredible family and friends. Their love and support keep me thriving. Aloha!
