Medi-Cal provides free or low-cost health coverage to low-income individuals and their families. California has been expanding Medi-Cal to a larger and more diverse group of people. Currently, immigration status is only considered for Medi-Cal applicants between 26 and 49 years old. Starting January 1, 2024, immigration status will not matter for any Medi-Cal applicant in California.

Kaiser Permanente participates in Medi-Cal in many counties. This means that if you are a current Kaiser Permanente member and your situation changes, you may be able to keep your same doctor and continue your care with Kaiser Permanente if you qualify for Medi-Cal.
At Kaiser Permanente, you have a wide network of doctors and specialists to choose from. All of our available doctors accept Kaiser Permanente members with Medi-Cal coverage.

Doctor’s visits
Get care from a doctor or specialist – including appointments, exams, and treatment.
Child check-ups
Your child can get regular check-ups – including shots and vaccines.
Medication
Get prescriptions that fit within our list of covered drugs.
Vision care
Have your eyes checked to see if you need glasses. Members can get frames and lenses for their glasses. Benefits may vary by geographic area.
Hospital inpatient care
If you have to go to a hospital, you can get the services you need, including x-rays and lab tests.
Emergency care
If you need to make an emergency room visit, you can get emergency services.
