Acerca de mí
Three of my grandparents are from the Big Island, so although I was born and raised in Los Angeles, I always felt a connection to Hawaii. I came here for two sub-internships during medical school and fell in love with the islands. I got my medical degree at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine and did a family medicine internship and residency at the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine. The first 10 years of my career were spent in primary care and as a part-time physician at Moanalua Medical Center, which gave me an interest in treating the acutely ill. I’ve served on more than 20 medical missions in Nepal, Cameroon, Sri Lanka, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Myanmar, and the Philippines, and I serve on a disaster response team with the Hawaii Air National Guard.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
During my undergraduate education at the University of California, San Diego, I had a wonderful mentor who showed great compassion. While shadowing him in his clinic and research laboratory, I saw the challenging and rewarding aspects of medicine. I chose family medicine as my specialty because it allows me to diagnose and treat a wide range of medical issues among patients of all ages. Because of my interest in international medicine, I also wanted a broad-based training experience that would prepare me for unpredictable situations.
To stay current in medicine, I attend professional conferences and read the journals of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the New England Journal of Medicine, and the online medical resource UpToDate. My professional organizations—the American Academy of Family Medicine, the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the Christian Medical & Dental Associations, and the Society of Hospital Medicine—also provide the latest information in their respective fields.
When I worked in a temporary position with the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG), I greatly enjoyed the staff and culture here. I’m happy to now be a regular part of this great team.
My goal is to provide thorough, comprehensive care to all my patients. I believe the best way to do this is to not only consider a patient’s physical condition, but also their psychological state, home environment, cultural background, and any challenges they’re experiencing that make it difficult for them to be healthy. I look forward to talking story with my patients about all the things they enjoy and what motivates them in life.
Cómo vivo bien
Staying active is important to me. I surf, run, mountain bike, work out at the gym, golf, and play roller hockey. In order to keep a healthy mind, I rely on my church community, faith, and daily prayer. I’m thankful to my awesome wife, who’s been supportive of all my endeavors, and to my two great kids, with whom I love spending quality time.
