Acerca de mí
I was born in College Station, Texas, moved to Houston when I was one month old, and grew up in a part of the city known as Alief. I did my undergraduate work at the University of Houston and my medical training at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. For my residency in anatomic and clinical pathology, I went to Baylor College of Medicine and later did fellowships there in cytopathology and hematopathology.
During my first year of residency, I met my wife in the anatomic pathology lab – we reached for the scalpel at the same time and never looked back. She’s from Kailua, so moving to Hawaii to live and raise a family was an easy decision to make. I’m board certified in anatomical and clinical pathology, cytopathology, and hematopathology, and I serve as assistant professor at the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine.
Mom and dad are my inspiration for everything. My mom is a very creative person, known by many for her kindness and understanding. My dad is an organic chemist by trade, a member of the American Association of Drilling Engineers Hall of Fame, and a drummer by hobby. He was always supportive of our family, our extended family, and others who came to the U.S. from India, no matter how difficult, time-consuming, or costly it was.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
My desire to help preserve health and life for others, as well as my love of science, led me to pursue a career in medicine. I chose to specialize in pathology because of my interest in diagnostics and the laboratory role in medical decision-making.
My professional interests include cytopathology, hematopathology, general surgical pathology, clinical pathology, and resident education. I’ve done research on the thyroid, lymphoma, and stomach mesothelioma that was published in various professional journals.
To keep up with current medical research findings, I read the various pathology journals including the Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Cytopathology, and the Journal of Hematopathology. I also access online resources, attend continuing medical education programs, and consult with my colleagues.
I was drawn to the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group because of the excellence of the pathologists and other medical staff with whom I’d be working.
It’s my belief that physicians should treat all patients as they’d want their family members to be treated – with patience, understanding, and respect.
Cómo vivo bien
To stay healthy physically and mentally, I work out, go hiking, and spend quality time with my family. I’m also involved in music production and repurposing household items.
