Acerca de mí
I was born and raised in Honolulu. Some of my most cherished memories are of my childhood, growing up in the natural beauty of the islands surrounded by my large family. I attended Punahou School, went to the University of Washington for a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, and came back home to attend the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine. For my pediatrics internship and residency I went to Stanford University and then to the University of California, Los Angeles for a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology. I’m now board certified in both fields and NCQA Recognized Physician in its Diabetes Recognition Program. Although I worked in Los Angeles for 15 years after completing my training, I always knew I would return to Hawaii someday.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
Being around children is a joy, so choosing to be a pediatrician was an easy decision. Because I love problem-solving, I was intrigued by the puzzles that the endocrine system presents, and I decided to pursue endocrinology as a second specialty. As a clinician I have a particular interest in pediatric diabetes, bone disorders, and transgender issues. I’ve also done research in growth factor hormone metabolism.
To stay current in medicine, I read professional journals, attend medical conferences and continuing medical education programs, and remain active with my professional organizations—the Pediatric Endocrine Society, the American Diabetes Association, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Serving as a volunteer instructor at the University of Hawaii also helps keep me on my toes.
I feel very fortunate to work at Kaiser Permanente, an organization that enables doctors to focus on the needs of their patients. In my opinion, the physicians and providers at Hawaii Permanente Medical Group are dedicated, highly competent, and compassionate, making this an outstanding place to give and receive care.
The daily connections I make with my patients are what make my job so satisfying. My goal is for each child to leave my office healthier and happier.
Cómo vivo bien
I’m a busy mother of four daughters, one is canine! My husband and I enjoy participating in their activities, which include soccer, swimming, and anything outdoors. I thrive personally by practicing yoga, dancing hula, and running with my dog. I’m also very involved with the Girl Scouts of America, Special Olympics, diabetes youth camps, and animal advocacy. Most of all, I treasure the quality time I have with my family.
