Acerca de mí
I was born and raised in upstate New York. I received my Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed my family medicine internship and residency at Trident Hospital in South Carolina and the Medical University of South Carolina. My parents both instilled in me values of honesty, a good work ethic, and the importance of making a contribution to society. They’ve always believed in me and have been my biggest champions. While in undergraduate school at the University of Notre Dame, I met my husband, who grew up on Maui. Twenty years and three children later, he and I made the decision to move back to Maui and make Kula our home.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
While in college, I read a biography of Dr. Tom Dooley, a Notre Dame alumnus who was widely praised for his humanitarian efforts in Southeast Asia, where he served as a doctor in the U.S. Navy. I identified with his work because I grew up in a rural, underserved community where there was a need for more primary care physicians. He’s been my inspiration ever since, and that was the main reason I decided to choose family medicine as my specialty. To stay up-to-date in my profession, I read as much as I can and attend a continuing medical education conference in my field each year. I also belong to the American Academy of Family Physicians, a professional and educational organization. Joining the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG) has given me the opportunity to collaborate with a team of excellent providers and staff, and has contributed to my growth as a physician. It’s a great feeling to know that expert resources are always available to me. I also believe that HPMG is forward-thinking and well-positioned to make the transitions and changes that will be required as the medical profession and the U.S. health care industry grows and evolves. I firmly believe in the importance of primary care and preventive medicine. My specialty allows me to listen to my patients’ stories so that I can better understand their needs. It’s a privilege to be able to offer hope and comfort during some of the toughest moments in their lives.
Cómo vivo bien
My family and my faith help to keep me grounded and remind me of what’s most important in life. Spending time with my husband and our three daughters, especially doing outdoor activities, is my greatest pleasure.
