Acerca de mí
I was born and raised on the Hawaiian Homestead in Anahola, Kauai. I attended grade school at Kapaa Elementary and then continued my education as a boarder at Kamehameha Schools Kapalama on Oahu. I earned my undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, and completed my medical education at the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine. I also completed my internship and residency in family medicine at the University of Hawaii. After finishing my studies, I moved home to Anahola, where I’m happily surrounded by my family.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
I became interested in practicing medicine at a very young age; in fact, in the second grade, I told my primary care physician that I would take over his practice when he retired. In high school, I became involved in medical research and won a grand prize in medicine and health at an international science fair. I also began exploring traditional Hawaiian medicine, and to this day I attempt to incorporate some of that into a Western practice. It’s a privilege for me to serve the Kauai community that has always meant so much to me. Because I grew up here, I’m able to identify and bond with my patients and their families. Specializing in family medicine is an ideal way for me to provide care to the community because I’m able to recommend healthy living practices that are compatible with their existing lifestyles. I also encourage medical students to return to their roots to care for their home communities. I’m a member of the Hawaii Academy of Family Physicians, the American Board of Family Medicine, and the American Medical Association. In addition to wanting to provide the best care to my patients, I mentor and teach high school and medical school students. Therefore, it’s important for me to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in medicine. I do this by reading professional journals, attending medical conferences, taking continuing education courses, and consulting my colleagues. I’m honored to join the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG) as it expands to Kauai. I like HPMG’s team approach, and I’m excited to be part of that team when delivering care to my patients.
Cómo vivo bien
Although it’s sometimes challenging to find time for myself, my family’s active lifestyle – including sports and other outdoor activities – helps me to achieve balance between home and work.
