Acerca de mí
I was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania. With the unwavering support of my family, particularly my mom and dad, I was able to follow my dream of becoming a doctor. They encouraged me every step of the way. I earned my Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and did my internal medicine internship and residency at the Cleveland Clinic. Before moving to Hawaii, I’d lived my entire life in Pennsylvania and Ohio. I’ve always had a desire to travel and explore, and at last I can call this beautiful island my home.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
I knew that I wanted to become a physician as early as 12 years old. When I got to college, I was surprised to learn that I could major in any field and still enter medical school. I’d always been interested in earth science and planetary geology, so I majored in geology and biology. One summer I was fortunate to do a research internship at NASA, where I made geologic maps of Mars and completed poster presentations and publications. However, I realize that my work there, though valuable, hadn’t changed lives in ways that I could directly see. This experience reinforced my decision to pursue a career in medicine, where I could have an immediate positive impact on my patients.
When I began clinical rotations in medical school I fell in love with internal medicine because it was challenging and a lot like working on a puzzle. My residency at the Cleveland Clinic taught me how to solve complex medical problems in a team-based environment.
My paper titled “HIV for the Primary Care Physician” was published by the Cleveland Clinic Disease Management online resource, and my research on treating kidney cancer was published in the journal Future Oncology.
I keep up with developments in medical research and changes in medical guidelines through daily emails from Medscape and by frequently referencing other online resources for physicians such as UpToDate.
I chose to join the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group because I was impressed by its collaborative and professional group environment.
I love getting to know my patients by listening to their stories. We can learn so much from each other if we just open our ears and listen. My philosophy of care is to always put my patients first. I try to involve them and their families in every step of the journey. Being admitted to the hospital can be frightening and overwhelming, and I try my best to calm any fears through constant communication with patients and their families.
Cómo vivo bien
To stay physically and mentally healthy, I try to maintain a good work-life balance. Exercise is my outlet for stress, and I swim frequently for relaxation. I enjoy meeting new people, learning about different cultures, trying new foods, and listening to live music. In my spare time I also love to paint, draw, and read.
