Acerca de mí
I was born in Honolulu and grew up in Pearl City. I received my medical degree from the University of Hawaii’s John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) and also completed my transitional internship at JABSOM. For my diagnostic radiology residency training, I went to theCedars-Sinai Medical Center, and later did a fellowship in musculoskeletal radiology at the University of Southern California.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
I was interested in nature and biology from an early age and majored in biology when I was an undergraduate. My original plan was to pursue a PhD in biology, but then I happened to spend an afternoon with a surgeon who was affiliated with the laboratory in which I worked. After watching him treat patients who needed his help, I knew that I wanted to have the direct patient interaction that comes with being a physician.
Having played different sports all my life, I first thought of specializing in orthopaedic surgery. During medical school, however, I became fascinated with how radiologists were able to glean so much information about the condition of a patient just from reading a few diagnostic images, and as a result I decided to specialize in musculoskeletal radiology.
To stay current in my field and in medicine generally, I attend medical conferences, read journal articles, and discuss pertinent topics with colleagues. My professional affiliations, the American College of Radiology and the Radiological Society of North America, are professional organizations that also give me updates on the latest developments in radiology.
I worked with the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG) for almost a year on a temporary basis. During that time it became clear to me that HPMG was a perfect fit for me. I was delighted to be hired full-time and be able to work in Hawaii, where I was born and raised.
It goes without saying that the patient's well-being should always come first, and I think Kaiser Permanente does an outstanding job of putting patients at the center of care. When I’m with patients during diagnostic imaging procedures, I explain what will be done as thoroughly and clearly as possible in order to make them feel at ease during a potentially stressful time.
Cómo vivo bien
To stay fit, I try to go for a run or to the gym several times a week. I enjoy spending as much time as I can with my family and participating in all types of outdoor activities, especially ocean sports.
