Acerca de mí
I was born in China but grew up in New England. My parents have always supported my goals and have been my greatest inspiration and role models. They instilled in me the importance of caring for others and of having a strong work ethic. My grandmother taught me that medicine is a rewarding and humbling profession and stressed that caring for the whole patient can be more important than curing an illness.
I attended the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and did my internal medicine internship and dermatology residency at the Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University, where I was chief resident. My first visit to Hawaii felt like a homecoming. My husband and I knew this would be an amazing place to build a life, and we decided to follow our hearts!
Acerca de mi práctica médica
Dermatology is an incredibly exciting and rewarding field. I’m able to diagnose and treat skin cancers, rashes, and help patients with nail and hair problems. I was fascinated to learn that certain rashes on the skin can offer clues to underlying cancers and illnesses that may have not otherwise been diagnosed. Plus, my field allows me to work with both adults and children and to help them not only manage their skin diseases but also to prevent skin cancers and to feel good about their skin—what's not to love?
I’ve presented and published on a wide range of topics, such as atopic dermatitis/eczema, skin tumors during pregnancy, and various skin cancers.
To stay current in medicine, I attend dermatology meetings, read scientific journals, follow the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Medical Association online newsletters, and consult colleagues.
When I visited the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group I felt so welcomed and knew that this was a place where I could thrive personally and professionally. I was impressed with the collegiality and feel privileged to be selected to join the other physicians in our joint effort to serve and care for the people of Hawaii.
I value the importance of educating my patients so that they can take better care of their skin and understand their diagnoses and treatment options. Listening to my patients and building partnerships with them allows me to advocate for them and guide them in choosing a course of care that suits their needs.
Cómo vivo bien
I’m fortunate to have a network of family and friends who keep me happy and healthy. I enjoy active sports, such as running, hiking, paddle-boarding, swimming, and SCUBA diving. My husband and I love spending time with our French Bulldog “Potato,” checking out new restaurants, dancing to bachata and salsa, traveling (we went to 17 national parks in 2016!), and sitting on the beach eating fresh poke.
