Acerca de mí
I was born and raised in New Jersey. After attending the University of Vermont, I went to New York City for medical school at Cornell University. I was fortunate to do my urology residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. My training brought me to Hawaii where I met my husband, who was born and raised here. After I completed my residency and urology fellowship, we decided to move back to Oahu. We gave our snowblower to our neighbor, drove across the country, shipped our car from California, and bought one-way tickets home.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
Although I was the only member of my immediate family to become a physician, my great-grandaunt was an inspiration to me. She went to McGill University Medical School and set up practice in Wichita Kansas from 1933 until 1988. While doing research after college, I also had a wonderful physician mentor who encouraged me to take my admission exams and apply to medical school. The decision to go into surgery was easy, and urology had the most appeal of all the surgical specialties because there are so many types of treatments for kidney stones, cancer, infertility, incontinence and pediatric conditions. I believe that a group practice with subspecialization is the best way to practice medicine. General urology can be managed by all urologists, but at the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG) we each have our own area of expertise and this allows us to provide optimal care for our members. In my practice, I aim to communicate with patients clearly and concisely. I provide all options for a condition that may need treatment and explain my recommendations. In addition to being the chief of urology at HPMG, I am a member of the American Urological Association (AUA) and a member of the Western Section of the AUA.
Cómo vivo bien
My husband and I have two boys. We play tennis, hike, go to the beach, enjoy home cooked meals, and attend our sons’ sporting games together. We enjoy Blaisdell concert hall shows, piano recitals, going to the park, being outdoors and spending time with family and friends at the beach. Hawaii has the best climate in the world so we feel the need to enjoy it! When we travel to the Mainland, we love to visit relatives in Colorado and build snowmen and go skiing.
