Acerca de mí
Welcome to my Web page. I’m Dr. William Devor, and I’m assistant chief of the Neurology Department and chief of sleep medicine. I’m the senior neurologist in the Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center’s Neurology Department. When I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1984, I was just the fifth neurologist to join our department. Our Neurology Department has grown steadily to our current staff of 13 neurologists and three nurse practitioners—all of whom are skilled, dedicated providers I feel privileged to work with.
Although I was born at Mercy Hospital in San Diego, I was raised in Los Angeles. I attended Paul Revere Junior High School and then Palisades High School. I graduated from UC Berkeley with a bachelor’s in biophysics and then went to UC San Francisco for medical school. I completed an internship in internal medicine at UC San Diego, and then completed a three-year residency in neurology, also at UC San Diego. I’m proud to have attended three of California’s finest universities.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
As a neurologist, I specialize in diagnosing and treating members with diseases of the nervous system. The nervous system includes the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and muscles. For over 25 years, I’ve been involved in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. After sleep medicine became a recognized medical subspecialty, I became board-certified in sleep medicine by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 2011. I now head the Sleep Clinic and Sleep Medicine Department. Within the Sleep Medicine Department, I’m joined by two superb sleep specialists from the Pulmonary Medicine Department. I also have the great privilege of working with specialists in voice disorders from the Head and Neck Surgery Department. Together, we treat speech disorders such as spasmodic dysphonia and voice tremors.

Living in the 21st century is stressful for all of us. The world is a much more crowded and competitive environment than it was when I was a young man. I believe exercise and time away from work to pursue other interests are critical to reduce life’s stresses. I enjoy tennis, music, woodworking, and classic car restoration. I have an enduring passion for the neurosciences, and an ongoing thirst for learning about how our nervous systems work. Kaiser Permanente has given me flexibility in my work schedule—time for continuing education, teaching—along with access to state of the art medical equipment and resources so I can continue to provide high quality care to my members.
