Acerca de mí
People call me Dr. J. I make up for what I lack in stature and basketball skills with a big heart and being a good listener. I’m one of the palliative care physicians at Kaiser Permanente’s South Bay Medical Center, and I strive to support each member as I would a member of my own family.
I grew up in Southern California and graduated from UCLA in 2001. I went on to complete medical school in Baltimore and then moved to Chicago to train in internal medicine at the University of Illinois Hospital, remaining there for 11 years, and I transitioned from being a primary care physician to practicing palliative medicine. I was given the opportunity to launch a palliative care consult team and served as the director. In this role, I managed a multidisciplinary team, cared for patients in the hospital, and taught residents and fellows. In 2016, my lovely wife and baby girl moved with me to my favorite place in the world, Southern California.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
Palliative care is specialized medical care for people living with serious illness. It focuses on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the member and the family. I enjoy palliative care because it allows me to spend a lot of time getting to know members and their families. Building a strong member-doctor relationship enables me to provide valuable insights and support as people make complex medical decisions. This work is incredibly rewarding, and it is a pleasure to work closely with exceptional colleagues from various disciplines.
Cómo vivo bien
I strive to take things slow and savor life. I even talk slowly. To maintain my health, I bike ride along the beach and eat a pescatarian diet. I enjoy expanding my horizons by listening to all kinds of fiction books and podcasts. I hope to one day start practicing meditation and learn how to play the piano.
