Welcome to my Web page. I appreciate the opportunity to introduce myself, and share a bit about my practice.
As a first generation immigrant, I feel blessed to live the American Dream. My parents brought me to the Unites States when I was three months old. We lived a few years on the East Coast before settling permanently in Southern California. I grew up helping my parents earn a living. We could make a few more cents if we repackaged 24 canned beverages into six-packs to sell to customers. I can recall snapping plastic rings around soda cans to make these six-packs until my fingers ached. I think this built a good work ethic that helped me with more than just medicine. My medical training has taken me to both the East and West Coast. I earned a degree in biochemistry at UCLA, and attended medical school at New York Medical College. I returned to California for residency and fellowship training in geriatrics at UC Irvine.
In the department of continuing care, I work in three settings: nursing home, home hospice, and hospital palliative care. In nursing homes, I oversee patients that need additional care before going home. Usually this care includes IV antibiotics, wound care, or physical therapy. I also serve as a primary care physician for the long-term residents of the nursing home. I make home visits for hospice patients. In hospital palliative care, I help patients and their families through difficult medical decision-making. The majority of my patients are older, and I would like to teach them how to age gracefully. When we are born, we are all hairless, soft-skinned, and baby cute. As we mature, we become diverse with life experiences and along with it, medical aging. A 50-year-old smoker may have the lung capacity of an 80-year-old person. I hope to educate my patients so that they can make informed choices to fit their lifestyle and thrive.
I balance my work with my hobbies. I keep marine fish and invertebrate aquariums, and I am an amateur photographer.
