I am an adult psychiatrist at Fontana Medical Center, focusing primarily on evaluation and medication management. I feel very fortunate to work at Kaiser Permanente because of my wonderful patients and brilliant colleagues. I consider myself privileged to work with an exceptional group of clinicians and supportive staff, serving the needs of our members.
I was born in Cairo, Egypt, and completed all my undergraduate and medical school education there. I wanted to be a psychiatrist since I was in high school. My father taught psychology and sparked my interest in the field. When I came to the United States I was fortunate to have had the bulk of my training in a residency program affiliated with Case Western University in Cleveland. My first job after residency was with a community mental health clinic in Michigan, where I stayed for more than two years. I moved to California after my first baby was born.
We try to work together as closely as possible to help our patients and meet their needs. Usually an intake is done by a therapist, who refers a patient to a psychiatrist if medications seem to be indicated. We have many groups available for weekly therapy, in addition to individual counseling sessions by our therapists. If medications are indicated, a psychiatrist will see the patient as often as indicated for monitoring. Our nurses are available to provide guidance and assistance, especially with medications and refills.
I firmly believe in staying healthy in mind, body, and spirit, and try to apply this principal to my daily life. Although far from perfect, I try to keep balance between family time, work, community, volunteering, and time for relaxation and personal rejuvenation.
