Hello, and thanks for visiting my Web page. Kaiser Permanente’s Web site provides a lot of great information, including these pages, which will help familiarize you with physicians like myself before you come to see us.
I have been working at Kaiser Permanente since 2006 and am very happy to be working here. Before that, I worked for more than 10 years in the East Los Angeles area. I was born and raised in Santa Monica. My parents were immigrants from Mexico. My father died when I was 8 years old, so my mom raised my three siblings and me by herself. Relatives, friends, and our local parish helped us. We had few luxuries; nevertheless, I enjoyed a pleasant upbringing. In retrospect, I strongly believe that poverty and hardship can be wonderful teachers that build our character. In college, I chose to major in nutrition because I loved science and food, and because I thought of healthy eating as a great way to prevent illness. Volunteering at medical clinics confirmed my interest in becoming a physician. I am now married and have three young children.
My nurses, other staff, and I are here to help address any health concerns you have. You can communicate with my office by phone or email. I strongly emphasize preventive care in my practice. Eating healthy food and getting some kind of exercise every day are essential to one’s well-being. Taking care of ourselves also has a great deal to do with having a positive attitude and being motivated. My goal is to help you live better and longer. I like to approach issues in a reasonable way, by listening to you and helping you develop a sensible health care plan and lifestyle.
I try to eat healthy. I drink lots of water and make sure I have fruits and vegetables daily. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned to listen more closely to my internal warning system, which tells me to stop putting food in my mouth. It’s tough, but we have to respond to our body’s warning system. I grew up exercising and have kept it up as an adult, mostly as a way to relieve stress, meditate, and clear my mind. I run, cycle, swim, and play a little basketball. I also enjoy different kinds of music, sports, reading the Los Angeles Times, listening to National Public Radio, and being active in my church community.
