Welcome to my Web page! I appreciate having this opportunity to introduce myself and share my credentials and other information with you. I joined the Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center in 1983, before moving to Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles to serve as assistant director of our regional Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory in 1991.
I was born in Bombay (Mumbai), India. My parents were well-educated and encouraged academic achievement in me since my early childhood. Seeds for my becoming a physician were sown early in my life as I observed my uncle—a very respected physician. Memories of him interacting with patients and making such a difference in their lives motivated and inspired me to choose my profession. This was not an easy decision, as I had great interest in physics and mathematics as well. I finished medical school in India and then moved to the United States for my postgraduate studies. I joined Kaiser Permanente because it fit my idea of the best way to practice medicine. Becoming a physician, coming to the United States, and joining Kaiser Permanente are three decisions that I’ve never regretted.
As associate director of one of the busiest cardiac catheterization laboratories in the country, I have a challenging but very rewarding job. I spend a large portion of my time doing cardiac procedures such as coronary angiograms, angioplasty, and stents. We have a very respected and active training program for general cardiology as well as an interventional cardiology fellowship program. I enjoy teaching and working hands-on with the fellows. I’m also involved in various research projects in interventional cardiology, have had several articles in prestigious journals, and have submitted a number of abstracts to national conferences. In summary, my duties include my clinical practice, teaching, research, and administration. I couldn’t ask for a more rewarding position. Life is about having a balance between work and family life.
I have a wonderful wife and four daughters. I thoroughly enjoy my time with them and getting involved with their studies, sports, and other activities. We love traveling and spending time outdoors. My favorite vacation spot is Yosemite National Park. I also enjoy tennis, bicycling, and reading.
