After I graduated from college, I volunteered with an orthopedic surgeon. I immediately fell in love with orthopedics, but was not sure why. As I continued into medical school, I figured out why I loved orthopedics so much. It is a field that allows the surgeon to use both physical and mental skills to make a diagnosis and treat patients of all ages. I find orthopedics, as a “hands on” type of medicine, very rewarding. After completing a residency in orthopedic surgery, I furthered my skills by completing a mentorship in hand and upper-extremity surgery, which I feel will help me best treat my patients and restore their function.
Hi, my name is Mike Suszter. I'm happy to have this chance to introduce myself to you and tell you about my work as a physician at Kaiser Permanente. I am an orthopedic surgeon, and specialize in hand and upper-extremity surgery.
As an orthopedic hand and upper-extremity surgeon, I pride myself on educating my patients about their problem. I give my patients the time I need to thoroughly answer all their questions: who, what, when, where, why, and how. I feel my job is not only to help them understand their condition, but to partner with them before, during, and after their treatment.
I enjoy spending time with my wife and family. My favorite hobby is photography, where I focus on black-and-white landscapes. Some of my other interests include cars, golf, skiing, and volleyball. I also enjoy third-world medicine and continue to volunteer time in both Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
