Acerca de mí
Welcome to my Web page. I am happy to have this chance to introduce myself to you and tell you about my work as a physician and as a physician administrator at Kaiser Permanente. I am an allergist who has practiced here for more than 30 years. During this time I have also assumed the role as director of the Allergy-Immunology Training Program and chief of service. I am on the executive committee for the Training Program Directors Assembly of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. Working here has afforded me a great opportunity to practice high-quality medicine, and to participate in administrative matters for my department as well as at the Medical Center and regional levels. I have also been fortunate to direct a well-respected allergy training program and to conduct clinical research. The experience has been both challenging and stimulating. I am proud to work for an organization that values quality of care and service.
I moved from Chicago to take a fellowship in allergy and immunology at UCLA. My roots in Chicago run deep, and I had every intention of returning after two years in the Air Force stationed in Northern California. By that time I was not keen about leaving the warmer weather. The opportunity to work at Kaiser Permanente and become a faculty member of the newly-created Allergy Training Program here at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center convinced me to stay at least for a short while. Now, more than thirty years later, I am still here, and grateful for the fulfilling career that Kaiser Permanente has afforded me.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
We have a seasoned team of physicians and nurses in the Allergy Clinic, which provides service to patients of all ages. We also provide a referral service for patients with difficult allergy and immunology problems from other Kaiser Permanente service areas. Although most of my patients are adults, my basic training is in pediatrics. Our active allergy training program is very competitive. We attract two to three high-caliber allergy fellows each year. We also have ongoing allergy research and publications in allergy journals. I serve as an editorial reviewer for two professional allergy journals. Our fellows have won awards for outstanding research, both locally and nationally. Working on a team that has the same vision for excellence in service and quality of care makes it easy to come to work each day. Although I will be retiring from the partnership at the end of 2007, I will continue in a full-time position here and will continue to co-direct the training program
Cómo vivo bien
Keeping a balanced lifestyle is challenging with the current demands of medical practice. I have always been an early riser, and I like to jog and play tennis. I find physical activity good for my spirit as well as my body. I love sports. Of course, I am still a fan of the Cubs and Bears and Bulls, but I have also become a UCLA and Lakers fan. I am interested in art and take lessons in drawing and watercolor painting. I enjoy reading and will read a good book voraciously once I start. I believe in community service. I have volunteered for the Southern California Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, chair the Medical Advisory Committee, and have helped to organize and have participated in the annual asthma camp for almost 30 years.
