Acerca de mí
Hello, my name is Mark R. Carter, and I have been a practicing pathologist for over a decade. My various roles include husband, father, physician, friend, colleague, son, board member, and teacher. I try daily to get a little better in each of these roles, and I strive to treat every person I encounter with the utmost respect and kindness. Professionally, I have served as a US Air Force Pathologist (Major) in the roles of Transfusion Service Director and Surgical Pathology Director, and more recently as Department Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medical Director at Enloe Medical Center.
I am a native of Southern California (born at Kaiser Permanente in Fontana); however, I have been away for the past 17 years. After completing medical school and pathology residency at Loma Linda University, I have been to Boston (Surgical Pathology Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School), San Antonio, Texas (Air Force Pathologist), and Chico, California (private practice).
Acerca de mi práctica médica
As a pathologist, I believe deeply in the importance of precise, accurate, and timely diagnoses (“the right diagnosis, at the right time, every time”). I believe that we pathologists play a critical role on the health care team. Although members often do not get to meet their pathologist, it has been estimated that approximately 70% of all health care decisions affecting diagnosis or treatment involve a pathology investigation (such as a clinical lab test or biopsy). We are often behind the scenes from the member’s perspective, but we work closely with other health care professionals and have sometimes been referred to as “the doctor’s doctor.”
Cómo vivo bien
Faith, family, friends, work, colleagues/members, and community are incredibly important to me, and I balance those commitments with alone time. My passions are cycling, yoga, reading/learning, teaching, and practicing medicine (specifically pathology). I thrive on follow a plant-based diet, with plenty of fresh air and water, sunlight (with sun protection), exercise, faith/devotional life, and rest.
