Welcome to my Web page! This is a perfect opportunity for me to share a glimpse of my background and practice.
I grew up in Southern California but had all my medical training on the East Coast, including an extra year of training beyond my three-year gastroenterology fellowship to specialize in advanced endoscopy. I was fortunate to become familiar with gastroenterology (GI) as a medical student because I was immediately drawn to it. I believe this field offers a perfect mix of “thinking” (office consultation) and “doing” (endoscopy procedures). I enjoy the opportunity to interact with—and learn from—my colleagues, locally and nationally, by participating in our monthly multidisciplinary meetings and by attending national GI meetings.
Although I see general GI patients, my interest lies with advanced conditions (such as pancreaticobiliary problems) and procedures, including EUS (endoscopic ultrasound) and ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography). I also underwent additional certification from the ASGE (American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy) to specialize in endoscopic mucosal resection, a method of removing complex polyps through an endoscopy (and hopefully avoid the need for surgical removal). I am proud to be one of a handful of doctors within Kaiser Permanente’s Southern California region that specializes in such procedures. I believe that effective doctor-patient communication and patients taking ownership of their own health are the cornerstones to their overall well-being. I often use diagrams to explain key concepts, and I encourage patients to ask as many pertinent questions as possible to help them understand their condition and treatment.
