Acerca de mí
Hello, and welcome to my Web page. I attended medical school in England, graduating in 1984 from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Thereafter, I practiced internal and family medicine in many different cities in the UK in both urban and rural settings, serving varied populations from the socioeconomically underserved to the very affluent. I moved to the U.S. in 2001 after meeting my life partner, dividing my time between countries in order to continue my work as a UK physician whilst obtaining my master’s degree here in California. I spent a year in Australia working in internal medicine then, in order to practice medicine here in the U.S, I undertook to repeat my residency in Greenwich, CT, and am now pleased to say that I am board certified in internal medicine.
After graduating from medical school, I worked as a general practitioner in the British healthcare system for many years. In addition to my clinical work, I served on faculty at the university where I taught and contributed to the development of a new, problem-based approach to learning and teaching medicine, writing new curricula and course materials. I have a strong clinical interest in the mental and physical health of the older person, and published the first evidence-based guidelines on managing dementia in the primary care setting. I love languages, so when I first came to America, I studied for a master’s degree in translation , obtaining it in 2007 from the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, CA. Now I run my own freelance medical translation, editing, and quality assurance company. I am also committed to quality assurance in the healthcare setting, promoting patient safety and organizational accountability, serving as House Staff Safety Council representative during my residency, and sitting on many medical quality assurance committees in England.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
I am, above all, a person-centered physician, placing the agenda in the hands of the patient and sharing the decision making, in the context of evidence-based practice. I believe I am a strong communicator in both English and Spanish, and place great importance on rapport-building and the development of effective, long-lasting and creative doctor-patient relationships. For me, compassion, humility and integrity are the cornerstones of my practice.
Cómo vivo bien
I love to read, listen to classical music and opera, go to the movies, and swim, and am over-abundantly provisioned in all of these choices here in Los Angeles!
