Acerca de mí
Hello! Welcome to my web page. I hope this gives you an idea of who I am and what I do at the South Bay Medical Center. I’ve been with Kaiser Permanente since 1978, and practicing in South Bay since 1984. I’ve practiced in the field of infectious diseases since 1982.
I’m a homegrown Southern Californian, born and raised here. I studied biology, English and French literature, philosophy, medicine, and public health at UCLA, UC Santa Cruz, UC San Francisco, and UC Berkeley. I briefly studied for a year abroad at Trinity College in Dublin as well. I specialized in family medicine and internal medicine. I finally chose infectious diseases, public health/epidemiology, and tropical medicine as the focus of my practice. I‘ve always been interested in the big picture of life and the inter-relationships among the environment, biology, culture, and philosophy. This has led me along my current journey. There are many paths—no single path is the right way.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
Infectious diseases—once thought to have been conquered—have continued to play a major role in our society and the world. HIV and AIDS evaluation, treatment, and prevention are a large part of every infectious disease specialist’s life. But equally important is the globalization of diseases and the effect of our very treatments upon infections. Infections once thought to be limited to only one area of the world have often been found around the world. Antimicrobial treatments, once thought to vanquish infections have been found to promote resistant organisms. The ways we live, use medications, treat infections, treat one another—it all affects our health and the health of the environment in which we live. It’s important to recognize that helping to find and treat another person's infection can prevent infections in our loved ones and ourselves.
Cómo vivo bien
In my professional as well as my private life, I try to live inclusive of other creatures and things, including microbes, without allowing them to take over and harm others. Balance is important—one should strive for satisfying work, and engrossing hobbies. I used to race bicycles, but now mainly ride off-road.
