Welcome to my Web page. I have been a rheumatologist at Kaiser Permanente since 1991. Before that, I spent six years in private practice. This is an exciting time to be a rheumatologist, as there are so many new treatments to help me take better care of you.
After completing medical school at The University of Kansas, I came west for my internal medicine residency and rheumatology fellowship. I am married and have two grown children, one working in journalism and one attending college. I enjoy photography (as anyone visiting my exam rooms can tell you), golf, bicycling, and woodworking.
I practice at the Imperial Orchard Medical Offices with four other rheumatologists and one nurse practitioner. The most common conditions I see are gout, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoporosis, psoriatic arthritis, and systemic lupus. In addition to my clinical practice, I also spend time doing medical research. I was honored to serve on the American College of Rheumatology national taskforce to help write the guidelines for the care of gout patients. Since then I have focused my research on gout with programs that will improve the lives of our patients.
I enjoy cycling, including the occasional multi-day ride—I’m a four-year veteran of the Arthritis Foundation California Coast Classic Bike Tour from San Francisco to Los Angeles. When not riding I like to play golf (definitely NOT a walk spoiled!), woodworking, and with my wife, travel and photography. I enjoy that my patients come from all over the world and love to hear their stories.
