Welcome! I have been practicing family medicine at Kaiser Permanente’s San Diego Medical Center since 2004. Thank you for taking the time to read my profile!
I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I am an 11th generation Texan on my mother’s side. My father is from the Philippines. I have one younger sister who is a nurse. I went to college at Rice University in Houston, where I majored in biochemistry. I received my medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. After I completed a residency program in family medicine, I moved to San Diego for two reasons: because it’s the most beautiful city in the United States, and I love to be outside. I am on the faculty for the Family Medicine Residency Program, which means that I teach new doctors and medical students. My husband is a middle school teacher. We live in Clairemont and have three sons.
I chose family medicine because I love getting to know and treat the entire family, all ages. I feel like the members, nurses, and staff are part of my own family. I think preventive medicine is the most important part of my job. We should make medical decisions together. If lifestyle changes are enough to control your condition, I am all for diet and exercise. However, I believe medications are often necessary to control the most common diseases, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. I want to work with you to get these diseases under control to prevent heart attacks and strokes. My job is to keep you as healthy as possible.
My philosophy on health is simple: eat less, move more, and be happy. I try to walk daily. I practice positive thinking because I really believe the mind is the most powerful tool we have. If you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything. Also, if you are happy, you are healthier. Other things I enjoy: my kids’ sports, updating our home, cooking, going to church, and having a good beer once in a while. I also laugh a lot (it burns calories).
