Thank you for visiting my Web page. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1977. I appreciate and respect the people I work with, and I especially value the way we share ideas. I feel both the doctors and patients benefit from this expertise and from our commitment to quality medical care.
I grew up in the Boston area and am still surprised that I chose to become a doctor since I couldn't stand the sight of blood. But my family doctor somehow found a way to make each visit a positive experience. I came to Southern California for medical school, met my wife and never returned to New England. My wife and I have three children. We all enjoy sports.
I am board certified in both pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases. The majority of my time is spent in the office seeing children who need routine care and those who have illnesses, but I also provide care in the office and the hospital for children who have infection-related problems. I am a strong believer in vaccines and am happy to have seen Hib vaccine make Hib meningitis virtually disappear during my career. My professional life has gotten increasingly busy, so my time on telephone calls is quite limited. Fortunately, I have an excellent team of nurses who answer my phone messages after consulting with me. They also help me provide preventive care to our patients during office visits.
I do my best to balance my professional and personal lives, making sure I have time for my family and myself. I enjoy reading, walking, jazz, wine in modest amounts, yoga, and traveling. And most important in my life is my loving and supportive wife who makes all the rest possible.
