Acerca de mí
Welcome to my Web page. I'm happy to have this chance to introduce myself to you, share with you my educational background and credentials, and tell you about my practice. I feel very fortunate to work at Kaiser Permanente because of my wonderful colleagues and patients, and look forward to working with you to care for your health. It's very important that you feel comfortable with your personal physician, and I hope this page will help you start to get to know me.
I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and attended the University of Michigan for both undergraduate and medical school. (Go Blue!) I spent my years in general surgery residency at Henry Ford Hospital in downtown Detroit, and after all that, I couldn't wait to move somewhere warm! I've been in Southern California since 2001 with no plans to leave!
Acerca de mi práctica médica
I am a practicing general and thoracic surgeon. My areas of specific expertise and interest include advanced laparoscopy and thoracoscopy, as well as surgical diseases of the upper digestive tract and chest. I am proud to have helped establish San Diego Kaiser Permanente as a "Center of Excellence" for esophageal cancer surgery--one of only three in Southern California. Medicine as a career is a very special opportunity to connect and help people in a meaningful way, utilizing medical skills and knowledge, but also listening and responding to what patients need. Being a doctor allows people to share with me their fears, and hopes; it is a privilege to help patients understand what concerns them, translate what they may not grasp, facilitate getting them the appropriate evaluations, and communicate with them and their families. I feel very honored that patients have entrusted me with their care and strive to ALWAYS treat them as I would my own family.
Cómo vivo bien
I am an avid powerlifter, having won national titles in two weight classes. I continue to compete to this day and train four days a week regardless of how hectic my work schedule becomes. I am very involved with nutrition because of this, and have served for several years on the hospital's nutritional oversight committee. I also am an avid motorcyclist--not your typical Harley rider perhaps, but whenever I need to relieve stress or collect my thoughts, I turn to my motorcycle and ride. My girlfriend helps keep me grounded by reminding me to take a vacation now and then!
