Welcome to my Web page! I hope that in reviewing this page you will have a better understanding of me as a person and of my approach to pediatric medicine.
I was born in Vietnam. At the age of seven, my parents brought our family to the United States as refugees after the war ended in 1975. We settled in San Diego. My parents worked hard and were not able to provide me with a lot of material things. But they gave me a most precious gift: they instilled within me a deep appreciation for education. They taught me that my future was up to me. If I worked hard, the possibilities were truly limitless. I became the valedictorian of my high school class and went to college. After graduating from UC San Diego, I moved to Los Angeles to attend the USC School of Medicine. There I met my wonderful wife. I completed my pediatric training in 1997 at the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center, and have remained there as a pediatrician ever since.
As a pediatrician, I am a big believer in preventive care. The best way to treat a disease in a child is to prevent it. I believe in being up-front and honest with parents. I encourage them to lead by example. I always include the parents and, when appropriate, the children in the decision-making process. Children have great potential; we just have to put them on the right path.
Outside of work, I like to travel, read, fish, play chess, and spend time with my family and friends. I subscribe to the notion of taking care of yourself through healthy eating, staying active, and reducing stress. Like many people, sometimes work gets in the way of exercising, but I try to take the opportunity when I have the time.
