About Me

I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, graduated from Oberlin College, and received my medical degree from the University of Cincinnati. I completed my surgical training at the University of Colorado. After five years in private practice in Lewiston, Maine, I returned to Colorado in 2006 to join the Colorado Permanente Medical Group. My goal to become a surgeon started at an early age and was born out of an interest in the physical challenges and rewards of surgical processes, but also how they dovetail into caring for others. After nearly 20 years in practice, the ability to have a positive influence in the lives of others remains my daily reward.

About my practice

I share a tremendous general surgery practice with eight other fine surgeons at the Rock Creek Medical Offices. I try to take a very logical and stepwise approach to surgical care. My goals are to help members understand and invest in their surgical processes as much as possible. Questioning the status quo is important to me, and has helped improve the experiences of my patients. I strive to communicate as clearly and as plainly as possible, so that my patients understand everything that they need to about their care, that their care is tailored to their goals, and that honesty and integrity are front and center in our relationship. I maintain a broad general surgery practice, with additional emphasis on retroperitoneal sarcoma, as well as pursuits in patient safety and safety systems. My home office is at the Rock Creek Medical Offices. Additionally, I see patients at the Edwards and Frisco Medical Offices.

How I thrive

Mentally, I thrive on independent thought and challenging the status quo. This applies both to my professional life as well as personal, as my wife and I raise our three college- and high school-aged children. When not asking "why" or "why not" I enjoy all aspects of Colorado life, including skiing, biking and cooking.
