About Me
I spent my formative years in the Pocono Mountains of rural Pennsylvania. In high school I played soccer, and I participated in collegiate soccer at Washington College, which is located on the eastern shore of Maryland. There I received my bachelor’s degree in biology. Pennsylvania is also where I completed all of my medical training, first at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and then at Penn State University Hershey Medical Center for my dual residency in internal medicine and pediatrics along with my allergy/immunology fellowship.
After my allergy/immunology fellowship, I joined an allergy practice in Portland, Maine. I became a partner and spent 5 years in that practice. After much reflection and deliberation, my wife, an allergist, and I decided to pursue a new opportunity and move to Colorado. We wanted an opportunity to pursue a practice style and lifestyle suited to both of our careers. This path led me to Colorado Permanente Medical Group because I realized that this group focused on patient care first and foremost, a priority for my philosophy of medicine. I have found camaraderie and collaboration among the physicians and staff. This sensibility is what truly makes it a great place to work. Finally, these relationships and the work environment have helped me build an affinity not only with my medical team but also with my patients. I currently reside in Denver with my wife and my dog.
About my practice
My philosophy on patient care is to first listen, next educate, and only then collectively develop a cohesive treatment plan. Shared decision-making is a large part of my daily practice, including my pediatric patients. When possible, I like to sketch or diagram information so the patient has a visual representation of their condition along with the auditory input that I share. Allergy/immunology is one of the unique medical specialties that allows me to see patients of all ages. My residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics prior to my allergy/immunology fellowship provided a solid foundation in the care of patients from infants to the elderly. I enjoy being able to take care of the whole family.
How I thrive
One of the most important things I learned throughout my medical training is that I was my first patient. During my off hours, my wife and I enjoy hiking and skiing throughout Colorado and sailing on the Cherry Creek Reservoir. I value an active lifestyle, which I believe is important to one’s overall health in mind and body.
