About Me

I grew up in New Jersey, just outside New York City. I spent my wayward youth (the 1960s) in Greenwich Village and the Fillmore East; yes, I was at Woodstock, all 3 days! I went to MIT to study "science of the brain" and then transferred to Princeton to study "science of the mind" and graduated in philosophy. I joined the U.S. Navy and went to Albert Einstein College of Medicine to train in neurology and neurosurgery. I completed my neurosurgery residency at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and became the first epilepsy surgery fellow at Yale. I'm still trying to figure out where the brain stops and the mind begins.

About my practice

It is a privilege to take care of patients, who trust me to do the best I can to operate on their brain or spine.

How I thrive

Outside of medicine my passions are my family, traveling the world and music. I enjoy listening to, and playing jazz keyboards, alto and tenor sax, and more recently digital music production. Photography, golf, skiing, and fly-fishing are some of my other pleasures.
