About Me

I grew up in the small town of Priest River, Idaho, near Priest Lake and Coeur d’Alene. I was interested in medicine at an early age. A life-changing event occurred while I was in high school working summers in a lumber mill. A coworker sustained a severe hand injury right next to me and I was helpless to provide aid. I decided then I wanted the education and training to provide medical care for those in need. I attended college at Washington State University and then medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans. I completed a general surgery residency at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center which brought me to Colorado. I was board certified in general surgery and practiced while in the Army at Fort Knox in Kentucky. I came back to Fitzsimons to complete a plastic surgery residency and then went to the University of Louisville for a microvascular surgery fellowship. I became board certified in plastic surgery and finished my Army career as a lieutenant colonel at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, serving nearly 14 years. I then joined Colorado Permanente Medical Group in 1996 as a plastic surgeon. I met my wife here in Denver and we have three children who I consider my greatest accomplishment. The most rewarding part of my career is getting to know my patients personally and providing them reconstructive surgery to enable them to be whole again – physically and mentally. I have been honored to be selected 14 years as a 5280 Top Doctor.

About my practice

I specialized in reconstructive plastic surgery and microsurgery to be able to provide treatment for patients who are facing difficult, life-changing deformities and to allow them the opportunity to be confident and productive in their lives. I believe in collaboration with my patients, to understand your goals and concerns, and most importantly to provide you with the latest concepts and procedures in plastic surgery so you have the information to make the best choice for your care. I am fully dedicated to my patients and will strive to partner with you on your journey to be whole again physically and mentally. My practice in plastic surgery covers cosmetic surgery and the full spectrum of reconstructive plastic surgery including breast reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction after cancer surgery, lower extremity reconstruction, skin cancers, and sarcoma surgery.

How I thrive

For more than a dozen years I have traveled to Arusha, Tanzania, twice a year for surgical missions to conduct cleft lip and palate repair, burn scar contracture surgeries and cancer surgeries. It is an ongoing commitment and passion. While I have found the need is great, much can be done with a little, and I receive more than I ever give. The rewards are exponential and never cease to recharge my mind and spirit. I’ve also been fortunate to have made medical mission trips to Nicaragua and Ethiopia. My family to me reigns supreme with my wife (an OB-GYN physician), two daughters and a son. We enjoy the Colorado outdoors and our favorite times together are family vacations to our lake house in Priest Lake, Idaho. My hobbies include bike riding, golf, boating on the lake, and enjoying good food and wine (I’m a certified sommelier).
