About Me

Welcome to my Web page. I am delighted that you are using the resources at Kaiser Permanente to be informed about and involved in your health care. My family and I form 4 generations of Kaiser Permanente members, and I am a second-generation Kaiser Permanente physician.

Biography

I am a California native from Los Angeles and grew up in the Inland Empire. The first 4 years of my life after high school were gloriously spent living, surfing, and scuba diving in North San Diego County, and along the way I was able to earn my BA in biology from Revelle College at UC San Diego. I initially trained for a career in medical research, earning a PhD in molecular biology and biochemistry concurrently with my medical degree at UC Irvine. During medical training, I decided to pursue clinical practice rather than research and chose to specialize in ophthalmic surgery. I have been in general ophthalmology practice since 1987.

About my practice

My practice is limited to diseases and surgery of the eye. In 2018, after more than 30 years performing cataract surgery, cornea transplant surgery, and glaucoma surgery, I retired from surgical practice. I still see members and perform some office-based surgeries. I spend some time at all 5 of our ophthalmology offices in Orange County (La Palma, Tustin, Mission Viejo, Harbor-MacArthur, and Yorba Linda) depending on where my services can be most useful serving the needs of our members.

How I thrive

I live a healthy lifestyle with a good diet, some exercise, and time away from work with my family to pursue other interests. My wife and I love to travel and spend a significant amount of time outdoors. We are blessed with a large family, and most of our activities center around time spent with them. I am proud to be a physician at Kaiser Permanente and look forward to each workday to help care for our members.
