About Me
Welcome to my Web page. I am glad to have the opportunity to introduce myself to you and to share with you my training, credentials, and experience in the practice of medicine. I have been with Kaiser Permanente Southern California for over 30 years and feel very fortunate to be working in such a fine organization. I work with a group of wonderful and very competent colleagues who share the goals and passion of providing the best care to all our patients.
Biography
I was born In Indonesia and came to the United States to attend college at age 20. I attended Ripon College in Wisconsin, then went east to attend the University of Rochester in New York for my medical studies. After graduation, I did my internal medicine training at George Washington University Hospital and the District of Columbia Hospital. I first did a cardiology fellowship but then decided to go into nephrology and did a nephrology fellowship at the Northwestern University Lakeside Veterans Hospital in Chicago. After graduating from Northwestern, I stayed as a member of the faculty, where I did teaching and research. After deciding that we'd had enough of the cold weather, my wife and I decided to come to California, where I joined Kaiser Permanente. I feel that joining Kaiser Permanente has been the best choice of my professional career. This health care system encourages physicians to practice good medicine and provide optimal patient care.
About my practice
I have found the study and practice of medicine to be very demanding but also very satisfying. I feel a special privilege to be entrusted with the care of patients. I feel a special bond with my patients and will always do my best to maintain their health. Because patients with kidney diseases often have multiple problems, in our Nephrology Department we work as a team that also includes nurses, doctors, care managers, pharmacists, and social workers to provide proactive and thorough care. We have an extensive patient education program and close follow-up for all our patients. I believe in preventive care and also consider myself an educator and advisor for the patients I see.
How I thrive
Besides medicine, my interests are spending time with my family, reading, traveling, and gardening. I enjoy the limited time I have away from my professional life to be with my family, whether traveling or just spending time together. I also like to read and be exposed to new ideas and knowledge. I feel life is like an exciting journey on which one is constantly encountering new ideas, people, and places. The practice of medicine is also an adventure in which I meet new patients, get to know them, and use my knowledge and skills to help them. A physician also has to constantly read and learn so that patients will benefit from the latest information and medical advances.
