About Me

I am a native Northwesterner but have lived and worked in a variety of settings. I spent much of my school years in Illinois and attended Wheaton College near Chicago for my undergraduate degree. I returned to the Northwest for residency at Madigan Army Medical Center, then enjoyed the rest of my military service stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. I had always hoped to spend time working in the developing world, and over the next 8 years I worked in both Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. Each of these practice settings provided its own unique challenges and rewards, and each reminded me that medical training is a life-long endeavor.

About my practice

Having worked with people of all ages and in a variety of cultures, I have learned how important it is to listen and strive to understand my patients' perspectives regarding their life-style and health. Flexibility is important in my practice, and my patients and I partner to make decisions that fit their unique needs. I spent some years of my overseas practice focusing on pediatrics, which remains a favorite part of my work.

How I thrive

I find that making time to exercise, read, and enjoy music is important for me to relax and feel my best. I love outdoor activities like backpacking, sailing, and especially rock climbing with my family. Playing piano and reading are my "rainy day" activities, and my family and I are active in our church.
