About Me
Hi, my name is Sharmila Basu, and I am an internal medicine/primary care doctor here at the Vandever Medical Offices in San Diego.
Biography
My roots are in India, but I did my high school and undergraduate training in the New York area. I went to New York University, where I studied linguistics and biochemistry, and thereafter I did a master's in biology, focusing on cancer biology, also at NYU. After that, I moved to Baltimore, where I did a master's in public health at Johns Hopkins University, and worked on a genetic epidemiology project there for a few years. It was there that I had my first clinical contact with patients, and became interested in clinical medicine. I left Baltimore and attended medical school at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western University in Ohio, and moved to California afterwards for my residency training, which I did at the University of Southern California. I recently moved to San Diego.
About my practice
I like to take a team approach of medicine, working with my patients as partners in their care and treatment plans.
How I thrive
I like to practice yoga, play the piano, and spend time with my friends and family to thrive.
