About Me

Welcome to my web page! It is an honor and privilege to be your Kaiser Permanente urologist! I know that you don't always get to choose your doctor, but I want to assure you that I take your care very seriously, and I want you to leave your appointment with me sure that I have researched your issues, reviewed all the relevant data with you, and discussed all the treatments available to you, or ordered additional testing so I know all I need to evaluate your case fully. You will be offered follow-up by return appointment, if necessary. You are also free to contact my office by phone or e-mail if you require additional information. I want you to think of me as your brother who went to medical school. You can't ask too many questions or bore me. I look forward to helping you in any way I can.

Biography

Seeing a urologist named Boris sounds like something out of a bad movie...so please call me Nick. I am a native Californian and went to college and medical school here (UC Berkeley for college and University of Southern California for medical school). I served in the United States Navy for 10 years, serving as a physician in Oakland and San Diego, then training as a urologist in Virginia and practicing urology in Guam for three years. I met my lovely wife in medical school, and she now practices at Kaiser Permanente as well as an ear, nose and throat physician. Both my wife and I are cancer survivors; these experiences have made me a better doctor. I am raising two teenagers who I do not understand and who do not understand me...but I am trying hard to change that.

About my practice

I am a board-certified general urologist. This means I try to do everything that a urologist does well, including treatment of stones, urinary infections and bleeding, urinary and male genital tract cancers, urination problems, male sexual dysfunction, some pediatric problems, male infertility problems, and management of trauma and pain centered in the urinary tract. If I am not the best person at Kaiser Permanente to treat your problem medically or surgically, I will find that person for you and see that you get the best possible care. If you have any questions, feel free to call my office. My nurse will answer your questions or direct your call to me as appropriate.

How I thrive

Family is everything to me. I spend most of my spare time doing things with my wife and kids and visiting our families in Central and Northern California. As a family, we like to hike and do a variety of sports. I also referee soccer almost every Saturday in Upland. You should take a class and try it too! I like to cook and spend a lot of my spare time planning menus and cooking for the family. Except for my son, who only eats meat, my family eats a lot of vegetarian meals. Meat is a "food-additive" in my recipe book! We enjoy outdoor vacations and have been doing a lot of whitewater rafting trips the last few years.
