About Me

I was born and raised in Honolulu. Growing up in a single-parent household, though difficult at times, allowed me to appreciate the importance of every single member of my family. We were blessed to have each other to rely on. My mother, who is a strong believer in education, instilled in me the values of discipline, hard work, humility, and compassion.

About my practice

I’ve always been attracted to the biological sciences. Becoming a physician assistant satisfied both this interest and my long-held desire to connect with and help people. Throughout my life I was nurtured with kindness, and I’m grateful to be in a position to repay my community in a meaningful way. I earned my Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the College of Health Professions at Pacific University, and I’m certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. I’m a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and a fellow of the Hawaii Academy of Physician Assistants. In the community, I volunteer with the Hawaii Kai Jaycees and the Honolulu Japanese Junior Chamber of Commerce. To stay current in my field, I read medical books and journals, consult online medical resources, and attend continuing medical education conferences. In addition to English I speak conversational Japanese. I believe that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. My preferred approach to care delivery is to emphasize preventive medicine while offering comprehensive care for a range of medical issues, as well as screening, educating, and generally advocating a healthier lifestyle. I think this is most effective as a group effort where members of the health care team support each other. I was happy to find these same approaches at the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group. It is also gratifying to practice in Hawaii, where I am able to care for people from so many different cultures and backgrounds. Bonding with patients is a very rewarding part of my profession. I value strong partnerships with my patients as we work together to improve their health.

How I thrive

In my leisure time I enjoy hiking, running, being outdoors, and spending time with loved ones. My family keeps me centered, and reminds me to be grateful; especially for the little things in life. This helps me to keep a positive outlook. My motto is “R&R&R — Rest, Recharge, and Re-center."
