About Me
I was born and raised in Georgia. While attending college in Colorado, I realized there was a much larger world out there than I had experienced growing up. After graduation I went to Nova Southeastern University in Fort Myers, Florida, for my Master of Medical Science Physician Assistant degree. I also have a Master of Health Administration from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia.
About my practice
My father was a general practice physician in rural Georgia. Growing up, my siblings and I worked in his office, and I knew from an early age that I wanted to work in a similar profession. He showed me the incredible joy that can come from helping others.
As the only physician in a town with no hospital, he took care of many different types of medical issues. As I watched him, I was especially attracted to the diversity of his work, and I find that family medicine appeals to me in the same way.
To stay current in medicine and learn the latest treatment guidelines, I read professional journals and attend annual medical conferences. My membership in two professional organizations, the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Hawaii Academy of Physician Assistants, also gives me access to new developments in my field.
I’ve always been a proponent of the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group’s model of health care, which focuses on treating the whole person with providers and staff who work together as a team. I feel very proud to be a part of this organization.
I believe in getting healthy and staying healthy. Depending on when and where someone starts that process, it can be a challenging one. I believe, however, that everyone has the power to change for the better, and my role is to assist patients in achieving the health goals they set for themselves.
How I thrive
I begin each day with meditation and exercise. This practice helps to ground me and to give me the energy and focus I need to be productive and to fully enjoy each day. I also make sure that I get plenty of restful sleep at night. Away from work I enjoy going to the beach, spending quality time with family and friends, and traveling.
