When I graduated from high school in a college town, I was determined to branch out and find my own way, be my own person. I chose to attend a rival university and pursue a business degree, diverging from my family's roots in science and medicine. However, I soon realized that working directly with people to improve their quality of life was a better fit for me. I was led to the field of psychology, and years later, I continue to be amazed by its application to everyday life.
My practice is guided by a biopsychosocial model that acknowledges interactions among a person's body, thoughts, behaviors, emotions, environment and present and past relationships. Although I rely on evidence-based treatments and techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and acceptance-based approaches, I view each person as a unique individual. Together, we will work to gain a better understanding of your life situation and move you in the direction of your life goals. In addition to my training in clinical psychology, I have a specialization and certification in behavioral sleep medicine. Sleep is such an important component of both emotional and physical health, and I have experience working with a variety of sleep problems including insomnia, circadian rhythm disorders and difficulties adjusting to sleep apnea treatment. My other areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, PTSD and trauma-related issues.
I thrive by taking time to laugh and connect with others on a daily basis. I have found that spending time with my friends and family, including four nieces, rejuvenates me and helps me appreciate each moment.
