Welcome to my Kaiser Permanente Web page! I joined the family medicine department at our West Los Angeles facility in 1990. I had come from a 10-year solo private practice in Santa Monica. Since it first opened in April 1993, I have had my office at the Kaiser Permanente Culver Marina Medical Office Building. Besides my personal practice in family medicine, I am also the physician-in-charge here. We provide the medical advice, medicines, or treatments you need to treat your particular problems.
I attended Hollywood High School. I obtained a degree in psychology and graduated from medical school at UCLA. I also obtained a master’s of public health in epidemiology. I decided to train as a family physician. Family medicine was a new specialty at the time. Its philosophy was to prepare physicians to take care of all members of a family, of all ages, and to focus not just on individual medical problems, but to treat the individual in the context of the family and the community. In Santa Monica, where I live, I was on the Commission on Older Americans and was the physician for a nonprofit that maintained shelters for battered women and their children, runaway and throwaway adolescents, and the homeless. My wife and I have three grown boys. My major interests outside of work are reading and collecting books.
My practice is consistent with the philosophy of family medicine. I take care of all ages. I provide care for acute and chronic medical problems, including the treatment of hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, and skin problems. I provide services for adults, children, women, and older patients. Whenever necessary, I utilize specialists. I am dedicated to seeing my patients when the need arises. I encourage my patients who have access to computers to use the Kaiser Permanente Web site (www.kp.org) to communicate with my office, when appropriate, through our secure email system. My medical assistant and our staff are dedicated to taking care of your needs and assuring that they are met personally and effectively.
In order to maximize your well-being and achieve longevity, you need to practice a healthy lifestyle. If you smoke, you must try to stop, and we have programs that can help. We want you to exercise 30 to 60 minutes most days of the week. You could also spend this time with friends, significant others, and children. Use it to listen to music or audio books. Eat well, with more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans, legumes, and fish, while consuming less red meat and butterfat.
