About Me

Welcome to my Web page. I am a board certified physician and a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. I am delighted to be a part of a highly specialized, comprehensive group at the Kaiser Permanente Panorama City Medical Center. My colleagues are very knowledgeable, collegial, and compassionate cardiologists who practice evidence-based medicine. I work with a wonderful team of nurses, sonographers, technicians and staff members.

Biography

I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2002 after completing a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases from the Barnes-Jewish Hospital at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, followed by specialization in adult congenital heart disease and heart disease in pregnancy at the Ahmanson/UCLA Adult Congenital Heart Disease Center. My passion for heart disease dates back to my final years in medical school. Initially, I was intrigued by the advancements in surgery and wanted to become a heart surgeon. I spent nearly two years of my training in cardiothoracic surgery (clinical work and research), before deciding that “heart health” meant more to me than heart disease. This made me change my professional course to become a cardiologist. I firmly believe in the Chinese proverb "A good doctor cures illness, but the best doctor prevents illness." I support the population care management clinics, such as those for heart failure, cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes at Kaiser Permanente.

About my practice

In addition to my large practice in general cardiology, I take care of members in the Southern California region who were born with heart defects and are now over the age of 18 years. I provide preconception counseling and work with a high-risk obstetrics team to manage heart disease during pregnancy. I have a strong interest in echocardiography.

How I thrive

I enjoy keeping up with the advancements and making contributions to education in my field. I continue to participate and lecture at national and international conferences. Over the past decade, our collective clinical experiences and vast resources at the Panorama City Medical Center have culminated into many peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. Reading, writing, gardening, and fine arts allow me to thrive. Travel broadens education for our family. Our favorite destinations in the United States are the National Parks. My volunteer activities include services to the Camp del Corazon, the Adult Congenital Heart Association, the Hippocrates Circle and the Medical Explorers Programs.
