About Me
I am your friendly neighborhood urologist. Although I was born in Long Island, N.Y., I have called many places home, including South Florida, Georgia, California, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Italy, and France. I identify as Irish-Italian-Ecuadorean-American and enjoy staying connected to my diverse cultural roots.
I entered medicine out of a desire to care for those in need and chose urology because it offers a unique blend of surgery, medicine, and long-term patient relationships. Helping people feel comfortable and understood is at the heart of my work.
Outside of medicine, my children (who know me as Papa John) are the center of my life. I share my home with Luka, my golden retriever, and enjoy music, poetry, and staying active outdoors.
About my practice
I am proud to be part of Kaiser Permanente's team of board-certified urologists and advanced practice providers. Together, with our nursing and support staff, we are dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care.
My clinical interests include kidney-stone prevention and management, enlarged prostate and overactive bladder, endoscopic procedures, and urologic cancers. I believe in prevention whenever possible, favoring lifestyle and medical approaches before surgery. When surgery is needed, I focus on precision and recovery tailored to each patient's goals.
For me, good medicine is not only about curing disease, it is about protecting quality of life and helping every patient achieve their personal definition of health.
How I thrive
I try to live the healthy, balanced life I encourage my patients to pursue and it is not unusual to find me smiling even after a long day at work. My greatest joy comes from time spent with my children, who keep me grounded, curious, and young at heart.
Outside of medicine, I find creative energy in music and poetry. I play the ukulele, occasionally brave karaoke, and write haiku to clear my mind. I have never outgrown my love of comic books, science fiction, and animation - reminders that imagination is its own form of resilience. Staying active, whether at the gym or on long walks with my dog, helps me keep both body and mind in rhythm.
