About Me

My name is Dr. Arnold Yashar, and I am a board-certified orthopedic surgeon. I specialize in total joint replacement and have been a member of the Kaiser Permanente San Diego Orthopedic Surgery Department since 2006.

Biography

I was born in Liege, Belgium, but my family and I moved to Chicago when I was 3 years old. I completed medical school at Northwestern University, a residency at University of Michigan Medical Center, and a fellowship in joint replacement at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla. I then worked in private practice for 10 years in Louisville, Kentucky, before seizing the opportunity to return to San Diego and work for Kaiser Permanente.

Inspired by my time in residency treating university athletes, I have provided care for athletes on multiple football teams over the course of my career. I also served as the team physician for the Louisville Panthers hockey team and worked as an Associate Clinical Professor for the University of Louisville.

My initial interest in medicine was inspired by my father, a family medicine physician. As a child, I often accompanied him to work and inundated him with questions about the human body. From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a surgeon, and I was particularly drawn to orthopedic surgery because of its high success rate and the ability to make an immediate and meaningful impact on others' lives.

About my practice

While I treat a wide range of orthopedic issues, my practice primarily focuses on lower-extremity arthritis surgery, specifically hip and knee replacements. At Kaiser Permanente San Diego, our orthopedic team works collaboratively to ensure that members are connected with the right specialist for their specific needs. Our joint replacement program is thoughtfully designed to provide streamlined and high-quality care.

I am grateful to be part of a well-coordinated team of medical assistants, nurses, technicians, schedulers, and other healthcare professionals who are dedicated to their work and to the people we serve. This teamwork ensures that members receive high-quality care throughout their treatment journey.

How I thrive

I thrive by staying active and spending quality time with my family. My wife and I met in medical school, and she is now a radiation oncologist. Together, we have 3 sons, and we love watching them participate in sports. For exercise, I enjoy swimming in La Jolla Cove, running, and biking. I also have a passion for beekeeping and love sharing the delicious honey with friends and family.
