About Me

I have practiced Family Medicine at the Kaiser Permanente Vancouver Medical Office since 1980. My wife is a retired Kaiser Permanente physician and my daughter started her senior year at Macalester College in September 2011.

About my practice

I have a part-time practice, seeing patients four half-days per week. I am interested in teaching my patients to care for their health through diet and exercise, as well as providing them information to help manage disease. Discussing healthy eating is a main emphasis in my practice. As I near retirement, I see fewer children but help manage the challenges of aging. I also work in the Department of Medical Informatics, helping make our Kaiser Permanente Electronic Medical Record easier to use for other clinicians.

How I thrive

I am an accomplished photographic artist (landscapes and portraits), with works in several major museum and private collections. Three books of my photographs have been published. I am on the Board of the Photography Council of the Portland Art Museum, and I am on the Board of another photography organization, PhotoLucida. I am an avid (Grateful) Deadhead. I exercise regularly listening to Grateful Dead music or watching Doctor Who videos.
