About Me
I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and raised in Kaneohe. I have been interested in women’s health since I was a teenager and saw the challenges many of my peers faced surrounding teen pregnancies. I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in health care to promote the value of positive role models, personal support and acceptance, and the access to accurate information, all of which can affect a woman’s health. I live with my husband and we have four wonderful children: two beautiful adult girls and young twins, a boy and a girl.
About my practice
I began my career as a registered nurse in obstetrics and was inspired by the amazing impact that social, emotional, and physical support had on women during their childbearing milestones. I wanted to have a bigger influence in helping women have positive experiences and healthy outcomes during pregnancy and childbirth so I returned to school to become a nurse practitioner, then subsequently a certified nurse midwife (CNM). As the chief of the midwifery service within the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, I enjoy the shared commitment to scientifically-based practice, preventive health care and collaborative partnerships in all areas of medicine. I believe that women deserve the utmost consideration and respect when they allow me to participate in their miraculous journey of bringing new life into the world. I strive to educate and empower my patients by being their guide through every step of their adventure, from helping a couple prepare for the anticipated arrival of their newborn, to seeing a wide-eyed baby gaze at his/her parents for the first time. Becoming a mother can be a defining moment in a woman’s life and my goal is to make that experience as memorable and special for her as possible.
How I thrive
I take full advantage of the outdoors to help me stay physically and mentally healthy. I love taking long walks with my dog, riding bikes with my children and camping and picnicking at the beach with my family. I find it peaceful to sit on the sand and take in the scent and scenery of the rolling ocean waves. There is so much beauty in the world, and I try to capture it by taking photos of rainbows and waterfalls, and watching sunrises and sunsets.
