About Me
Welcome to my Web page. I'm happy to have this chance to introduce myself to you and tell you about my work as a physician and researcher at Kaiser Permanente. I am a neurologist specializing in multiple sclerosis (MS) and other neuroimmunological diseases, and have been caring for individuals with MS as well as performing MS research for over 15 years.
Biography
I grew up in Yellow Springs, Ohio and have known since seventh grade that I wanted to be a doctor so that I could help people. In school, I loved math and science and the challenge of solving difficult questions. I went to medical school at the University of Pittsburgh. I then spent the next 15 years at Stanford University, completing a neurology residency, neuroimmunology postdoctoral fellowship, and Ph.D. in epidemiology. I also saw patients and was an instructor. In 2009, I joined Kaiser Permanente and have been combining my skills to conduct research to improve our understanding of what causes MS and improve the quality of care for all people with MS and MS-like illnesses. I feel fortunate to work with such great teams both in the medical centers and research department and look forward to helping you receive high quality care!During that time I also met my husband Michael Gould (another very happy Kaiser Permanente employee) and had three lively boys.
About my practice
I currently spend one day a week at the Los Angeles Medical Center and the rest of my time doing MS research and working with health care providers and administrators across Kaiser Permanente to improve the quality of MS care for all of our members. My practice focuses on MS and MS-like illnesses such as neuromyelitis optica. I have had the good fortune to educate two outstanding MS specialists, Dr. Brandon Beaber and Dr. Sonu Brara, who practice full-time at Kaiser Permanente. Our team also includes excellent residents, nurses, social workers, pharmacists and radiologists who work together to provide the best possible care.
How I thrive
I maintain balance mostly by spending time with my family and friends playing games, hiking, biking, camping or just eating dinner together and watching movies. I also love exploring new places and learning about other cultures.
